Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Honours Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
